Published January 31st, 2018

If you are looking for a new career path and like to work with your hands, one great option would be to become a licensed contractor. There are many advantages that come with being a licensed contractor in the State of Arizona.

Be Your Own Boss

One of the main advantages of being a licensed contractor in Arizona is that you can be your own boss.  In order to work in many of the trades, you will either need to be licensed or you will need to work for someone that is licensed.  Therefore, unless you are licensed, you will not legally be able work for yourself in these trades in Arizona.

Higher Compensation

Licensed contractors in Arizona also tend to get paid more than non-licensed contractors.  When you are fully licensed and bonded, you will be in greater demand and will qualify to work on larger commercial projects.  Furthermore, when you are your own boss and do not work for anyone else, you will get to keep 100% of the revenue for each project as opposed to only getting paid a salary or hourly wage.

Requirements to Become a Licensed in Contractor

While being a licensed contractor in Arizona can be a good decision, it does require you to receive approval from the state. In order to apply to be a licensed contractor and be approved, you will need to have a certain amount of years of experience and pass some examinations. The actual requirements vary based on your exact profession, but typically require you to have around 4 years of experience and pass a Business Management Exam and the Trade Exam for your specific trade.
