Question:

Do I need a Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) license to be a contractor?

Answer:

Yes, contractors in Arizona generally need a TPT license to collect and remit taxes on contracting activities. It is essential to understand when and how the TPT applies to avoid compliance issues.

Question:

Do you schedule my exam with the testing company?

Answer:

Please note: We are not affiliated with PSI or any testing company. Testing must be scheduled directly with PSI 1-855-744-0310.  Please allow 3-14 days for scheduling for the date you want.  If you plan on testing during your visit with our office, please plan accordingly.

Question:

Can I take notes during the study?

Answer:

Our company policy prohibits taking notes or copying study materials. We ask that all briefcases, computers, and notepads be left outside the office. However, you are welcome to permanently tab, highlight, and annotate your reference books during your study session.

Question:

How much time do I need to study?

Answer:

Please allow ample time to study on site.  We have trained personnel that can handle your questions and provide you with the assistance needed to pass the exams.  We recommend a minimum of 8 hours per exam for study preparation time, but you are welcome to take as much time as needed.  We also suggest scoring in the 90's on our sample tests before sitting for the real tests with PSI.

In regard to the statutes and rules exam you should be able to finish this within 4-5 hours.

Question:

Answer:

What are the requirements to get a contractor license in Arizona?

Answer:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a qualifying party with the necessary experience, pass relevant exams, submit a background check, and provide proof of a bond and other required documents.

Question:

What if I have felony or misdemeanor convictions, can I still get my license?

Answer:

Although the Registrar of Contractors (ROC) requires a background check, it is important to note that not all criminal convictions will cause an application or renewal to be denied.  Criminal convictions are reviewed to determine if the crime is substantially related to the duties, qualifications, and/or functions of a contractor.  The ROC also reviews and considers evidence of rehabilitation.  Rehabilitation can be shown by counseling, gainful employment, passage of time without repeat violations, or completion of an appropriate rehabilitation program, etc.… Applicants who  still are on probation after a conviction, particularly a felony conviction, may experience more difficulty in demonstrating rehabilitation, due, in part, to the limited amount of time that has elapsed since the conviction.
