Life as a contractor or any blue-collar position doesn't have to be so rigid and boring. Doing one thing all your life in a way that someone else wants you to do it isn't the only alternative to making a dollar. Just ask yourself, does being self-employed give me more freedom? You will feel the answer come to you in your gut. Here are the positives.
* You can make your own schedule and work when you want to work. You can even get the days off that you really need without begging for them. No more disappointing a family member because you couldn't get the day off.
* You control your own destiny and work with as many clients as you so choose. There is no need to work with people who you don't feel comfortable working with. Pick your own clients and create the bonds that will turn them into repeat customers.
* Nothing is set in stone. You are your own boss and can do things in your own way. This is your chance to show your strength in business details and how well you can stand on your own two feet.
* The hiring and firing is in your hands. The employees you hire have to meet your particular standards and meet your criteria. You can train them personally if you like, but ultimately you have control over who works under you. No more working with disgruntled employees and untrained people.
