New Innovations in Construction Technology
Published February 25th, 2016

The Construction industry has been one of the fastest growing industries over the past few years. In addition to a need for more workers, there have also been new advancements for making construction work simpler. Check out these recent innovations in Construction Technology .

Smart Roads

Smart roads, also called Smart Transportation Systems (STS), are now under development in the U.S. Smart roads are being developed to improve driving conditions such as reducing traffic jams and reducing accidents. These roads will also decrease our carbon footprint. Although it seems costly, implementing features such as Glow-in-the-dark lining, dynamic paint and electric priority lanes are planned to make smart roads both people and energy-efficient.

Drones

Drones are a recent innovation in construction technology that are utilized for surveying. Drones allow you to hover around the entire construction site and make sure the construction is done properly without you having to move around and climb at dangerous heights. Drones save money in the construction industry by limiting the number of supervisors needed for overseeing work, aiding in identifying potential hazards or quality issues before they occur, and improving utilization of construction materials when needed.

Smart Sensors

Construction companies are beginning to put smart sensors on their workers as a safety method. By putting these sensors in the employees' boots, hard hats and harnesses, it allows the companies to monitor their activity. Smart sensors can measure body temperature to prevent heat exhaustion, track how long the employees are working, and monitor them at elevated heights for unplanned drops.

Anti-collision Software

Anti-collision software is a 3D system that monitors conditions of the construction site and sends the information to dashboards and mobile devices. The system tracks the movement, position, inertia and wind speed of the equipment operated at the site, such as cranes. This software helps site supervisors establish corrective safety measures.
