How Much Money Can I Make Working in the Construction Industry?
Published December 27th, 2016

If you were to listen to our politicians, and the professionals within higher education, you would think that the only way for a person to make even a reasonable living requires a degree from a college or university. Is this really true? It is reasonable to ask, before starting into a trade, to ask the question, "How much money can I make  working in the construction industry ?

The construction trade is one of the largest industries in the United States. However, it is also one with a large need for workers and independent contractors. The opportunities range from unskilled laborers to heavy equipment operators, and include highly skilled craftsmen, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians. Regardless, to get started, many positions will require no formal education beyond a high school diploma. Nonetheless, if you want to become self-employed, or to work in a supervisory role, you will need experience and some further education.

As reported by  U.S. News , "The Labor Department remains upbeat on this sector, predicting overall employment growth of 13.6 percent, or almost 520,000 new jobs by the year 2024. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters and construction managers will be needed to build new structures and update existing buildings." What are the top paying jobs in the construction industry?

Mike

I have though about this for years. No one wants to get their hands dirty any more. Kids want to be rock stars, movie stars, ball players, anything that doesn't include hard work. I have had many six figure income years as a general contractor and have reaped the rewards of such an income. As you stated, the political class makes it sound like employees doing our job are all from the bottom of the barrel. Their true feelings about us came out in this past election and I'm proud to be an uneducated blue collar deplorable who's income exceeds that of most airline pilots flying for major carriers!
