Secret Strategies for Becoming Successfully Self-Employed
Published February 16th, 2017

While being  self-employed  means true freedom, it is a simple fact that not everyone is cut out for it. Having complete control of when you work, and when you play, is awesome, but it comes with a lot of responsibility. If things go wrong, there is no one to point a finger at except yourself. However, there are strategies that can help the self-employed be successful.

Most people have no idea how to be self-employed. They just start doing it, repeating the same mistakes that others made before them. Therefore, today, we are sharing our (not-so-secret) secret strategies for becoming successfully self-employed.

1. Manage Your Time - When you are self-employed, there is always work to do. However, while you may have a home office, or take calls on your cell, there is no necessity to work until late into the night. Create and keep a regular schedule for yourself and your customers. Set expectation early, and let customers know your day ends at 6 pm.

2. Control Costs & Spending - You must plan for a work slowdown. One great benefit of self-employment is controlling how much you earn. However, every business will have slow periods. Keep your spending realistic, and plan for business expenses and taxes. If you need the help, turn to an accountant. You will save yourself a lot of headaches.

3. Be Authentic - Many entrepreneurs like to promote themselves as bigger than they really are. However, it is more effective to just be yourself. While acting like a "big dog" may work for some customers, most will see right through the masquerade. When you are self-employed, people are hiring you and your skills. It is OK to be a one-person operation.
